Yesterday news broke that Verizon will be offering Google Messages as the default messaging app for RCS, starting in 2022. This marks the third of the Big Three carriers in the US to make such a decision and follows in T- footsteps. Mobile and AT&T.

This is in part because Google brought end-to-end encrypted messaging (E2E) to the Google Messages app. E2E is a feature that has long been supported on other popular messaging apps like WhatsApp, Signal, and even Apple’s iMessage. It was long thought that using the default messaging app was the easiest thing for most phone buyers to do, so with this decision you shouldn’t have to worry so much about trying to convince your friends and family to switch to another messaging app.
