James Blake has announced a new album, Friends who break your heart, which will be released in September. This is his first feature film since 2019 Assume the form, although he released two EPs last year: a dance-pop offering called Before and a collection of covers. Blake calls Friends That Broke Your Heart a “concept album”. It features appearances by SZA, JID, SwaVay and Monica Martin.
Today he is releasing a new single, “Say What You Will”, which he first performed in one of his Instagram Live sessions last year. His music video stars Finneas, aka Billie Eilish’s brother. Blake says the song “is about finding peace with who you are and where you are at, no matter how well others seem to be doing.” The comparison is really the thief of joy.
