New York Jets passing specialist Greg Knapp, a longtime NFL assistant coach, is believed to have died of injuries sustained in a bicycle crash last weekend.

The news was conveyed in a tweet from Chicago Bears coach Clancy Barone, who called Knapp “the coaching profession’s best friend.”

Knapp, 58, had been in hospital in critical condition since the weekend when his bike was hit by a vehicle in San Ramon, Calif., About 27 miles east of Oakland.
