Kevin Dotson, Stephon Tuitt, others limited to Steelers open camp, but none on PUP roster

Of the 90 players who opened 2021 training camp on the Pittsburgh Steelers roster, none have earned the “physically unable to play” label. But that doesn’t mean everyone was going all out in Thursday’s first training session at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.

Mike Tomlin has confirmed that guard Kevin Dotson, defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt, linebacker Devin Bush and tackle Zach Banner are, to varying degrees, limited in their participation.

Speaking of Dotson, the sophomore who is slated to start in left guard this season, Tomlin said: “We took care of him. It will have a day or two (off). He should be fine. I think he’s tweaked a little something, but it’s not at all concerning from a global point of view.

Bush and Banner are each recovering from the suffering of torn ACLs suffered in games early last season. Everyone was in attendance and working Thursday, but Tomlin said the team “will be thinking about” using them early in camp until the regular season opener on September 12 at the Buffalo Bills.

“Both guys worked really hard,” Tomlin said after Thursday practice. “It’s great to see them come back here and work. We will just continue to be mindful of the reps we give them. Today was a great day for them to go out, put on shirts and be with their teammates. But we will be thinking about it throughout the trip and having a good day and pushing it continuously until September 12th.
