Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero teaser reveals full movie title, confirms 2022 release

Earlier this year, when Toei Animation announced that she was working on a new dragon ball movie, he kept it vague. We knew the film was slated for release in 2022, that it would feature an “unexpected character” and that it would chart “uncharted territory in terms of visual aesthetics”. Now we know more: at the San Diego Comic-Con @ Home Dragon Ball Special Panel, Toei animation announced the full movie title: Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.

Yes, it’s “great” twice in a row. It’s on purpose. “We really wanted to stress that this move is all about the superhero vibes,” Dragonball’s Shueshia executive producer Akio Iyoku explained during the panel. The film’s producers also shared footage of a new character created for the film wearing an iconic helmet and heroic uniform.

The panel’s most exciting reveal, however, was not the new character, but a brief teaser video that offered a glimpse into the film’s new visual aesthetic.

The previous two Dragon ball super movies used a mix of 2D and 3D animation during key fight scenes, and the short trailer shows the new movie’s evolution of that hybrid aesthetic – circling the camera around what appears to be a highly stylized 3D model of Goku warming up for battle. Iyoku didn’t give any details of the specific styling changes, but told fans that “the visual expression of Goku and the like’s movements incorporates a lot of ingenuity using different technologies.”

The film’s producer also stepped in to encourage fans to study the trailer for more clues. “We’re trying new things,” explained Norihiro Hayashida of Toei Animation. “So we would like you to take a look a few times to see what kind of ingenuity we are doing it with.”

The teaser clip only features a single 3D animation shot, but an animation representative Toei tells CNET that the clip is just a teaser and that the final film should have the same type of styling. hybrid animation than the one seen in Dragon Ball Super: Broly.

Either way, we’ll know for sure when Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero debuts in 2022.
