Google Meet is now a PWA on Mac, Windows, Chrome OS

Like Chat, Google Meet now has a Progressive Web Application (PWA) that allows quick access to the dock, taskbar, or launcher.

Google Meet’s PWA is simply meant to provide users with an icon that launches the same landing page, but with a blue app bar at the top instead of a tab. The date and time are conveniently listed above next to the settings. Your Google avatar stays at the top right next to the launcher which opens apps in your main navigation window.

This progressive web app (PWA) has all of the same great features as Google Meet on the web, but as a standalone app it’s easier to find and use, and it streamlines your workflow by eliminating the need to switch. between tabs.

Elsewhere on the page is a prominent “New Meeting” button with three options for starting a call and the text field for entering a meeting code.

Google Meet PWA

Like other PWAs, you need to be running Chrome 73 or newer with support for macOS, Windows, Linux, and Chrome OS. It is widely deployed today with the “Install” prompt appearing to the right of your address bar.

There will also be an offer to try out the Google Meet web app in the upper right corner of the main Google Meet opening page.

It is available for all Workspace customers, as well as for personal Google Accounts.
