I don’t know about you, but given the tumultuous year we had in 2020 (and continues to have in 2021, high-key), I was more than ready to ride and ride for better days and better times. Now, thanks to the brand new hit from Silk Sonic (aka Anderson. Paak and Bruno Mars), it looks like i can do just that!

After inviting us all to an unspecified ‘Summertime Jam’, the silky singers finally dropped a follow-until their resounding success, “Leave the door open.”This time, the duo opted to invoke some serious nostalgia with a staple summer hobby: roller skating.

In the video, Paak and Mars can be seen humming to a crowd of handsome brown-flayed women as they ‘float’ and ‘slide’ all around them, flaunting colorful box braids, locs and others, and doing skating stunts, my knees Megan Thee Little Pony could only dream. Paak brings his signature sounds while playing the drums while Mars sings lyrics with bongos. An excerpt from the chorus of “Skate”:

I try to roll, I try to roll

I try to float, I try to slide

No, no, don’t be shy, just take my hand and hold on tight

Skate for me baby (SKATE!)

Swipe your way on (Swipe your way on OVER!)

Skate to me baby. (SKATE!)

I want to get to know you (I WANT TO KNOW YOU!)

“This song sounds like it’s straight out of some lost Gamble & Huff sessions,” reflected Panama Jackson, co-founder of Very Smart Brothas. And damn it, Miss MOlly, if that’s not the truth!

Not only does this song invoke the true essence of the best of Philly Soul, but I would even go so far as to say that this song captures the exact same “Happy Feelings” that Frankie Beverly and Maze were talking about at the end of ‘90s. This song is like the song played at the end of every sensation-good movie. This song sounds like this one Film Bow Wow and Nick Cannon. This song feels like a staple Club quarantine joint (knowing D-Nice, he probably already had it in his queue two weeks ago.) More importantly, these songs make it feel like better days and better times are finally coming our way, and after a week like this this song sounds like stage skate in the right direction.

At least for now, that is. We are still waiting for this album, Silk Sonic. Don’t think we forgot!
