CINCINNATI (Enquirer) – Following the recent spate of COVID-19 delta variant cases, Kroger is encouraging all employees and staff, regardless of their immunization status, to return to wearing masks inside stores.

In a statement from a spokesperson for Kroger, the Cincinnati-based retailer said the updated recommendation was based on the most recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“In light of the Delta variant and the updated CDC recommendations, we strongly encourage all people, including those who are vaccinated, to wear a mask in our stores and facilities,” the statement said. “We will continue to uphold all state and local mandates and encourage all Americans to get immunized, including our associates. “

On Tuesday, the CDC recommended that fully vaccinated people wear a mask in indoor public places in areas of “high or high transmission.”

Kroger currently requires unvaccinated employees to wear masks and asks unvaccinated customers to wear masks in stores and facilities.

Walmart and the Sam’s Club announced Friday that stores and clubs will require masks for employees starting now, and customers are encouraged, but not required, to wear masks.
