Clifford the big red dog sat like a good boy waiting to be unleashed in theaters in September. Unfortunately, the growing cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19 have prompted Paramount Pictures to reconsider a theatrical release for the family film. The studio shot Clifford the big red dog of their release schedule, with families feeling less likely to go to the movies, especially in larger markets like Los Angeles and New York.
The deadline has a word on Clifford the big red dog being taken from the previously set theatrical release of September 17, 2021. It’s a month and a half away, so it’s quite a preventative measure, but it’s based on the increase in coronavirus cases thanks to the Delta variant which is much more contagious. It’s all the more surprising given that the film was following audiences well before the film’s release, but it’s clear the studio thinks things are going to get worse before they get better (again).
Clifford the big red dog was also scheduled to debut at the Toronto International Film Festival as one of the gala presentations in September. In Canada, distribution rights belong to eOne rather than Paramount Pictures, and as of yet, it is unclear whether the film will still screen at the festival. Now the question is whether Paramount Pictures will wait to be released. Clifford the big red dog at a later date. After all, it’s possible Paramount Pictures will send the film to Paramount +, following in Nickelodeons’ footsteps. The SpongeBob SquarePants movie: the runaway sponge or the sci-fi action movie Infinite with Mark Wahlberg. None of the movies seemed to make a big dent in the streaming wars, but with the first one Clifford the big red dog With the trailer racking up 130 million views in its first week, this could be the kind of movie that pushes families towards a Paramount + subscription.
Clifford the big red dog is led by Walt becker and stars Darby Camp like Emily Elizabeth, a college girl who meets a magical animal rescuer (John cleese) who gives him a small red puppy that magically transforms into a big red dog overnight. While her single mother (Siena Guillory) is on a business trip, Emily, Clifford and her fun but impulsive uncle Casey (Jack whitehall) went on an adventure.
