How to permanently disable the default PS5 controller microphone

Did you know your PS5 controller has a microphone which is enabled by default each time you turn on your console? The microphone is very useful if you are playing online multiplayer games, allowing you talk to your friends even if you don’t have helmet with a microphone. However, if you are concerned about your privacy and are wary of having another device that can record what you say, remember to mute the microphone.

How to mute the microphone using the PS5 controller

TThe easiest way to mute the mic is press the microphone button on PS5 DualSense controller. This button is located between the PS button and the microphone mute icon on the controller. Once you press this button, an orange LED will be displayed, which means the mic is muted.

The problem with this method is that you will have to do it manually every time the PS5 is turned on. However, there is a way to mute the microphone on the default DualSense controller.

How to disable the default PS5 controller microphone

Make sure the the controller microphone is not activated every time you turn on your PS5, you can change your parameters directly on the console. Turn on your PS5 and once the home screen loads, to access Settings by by pressing the up arrow on the D-Pad on your controller and by pressing the right arrow until you reach Settings, which is in the upper right corner of the PS5 home page (next to the search icon).

In your settings, go to Sound> Micro and open Input device. Right here, to select Microphone on the controller.

With that done, go back to the PS5 Microphone settings page and select Microphone state when connected. Below, if you select Mute, the controller microphone will be cut every time you start your PS5.

And with that, you don’t have to worry about the broadcast anymore your voice during an online gaming session, unless you want to let that happen.
