WESTFIELD, Ind. – Colts quarterback Carson Wentz will have a left foot surgery Monday afternoon, coach Frank Reich announced after Monday’s practice at training camp in Grand Park.

Reich praised the process the Colts and Wentz took in making the decision. The deadline for the return of Wentz is five to 12 weeks.

“Obviously we are optimistic and hope that we can be at the forefront of this,” Reich said.

Offensive coordinator Marcus Brady previously said Wentz felt a pinch in his foot late in Thursday’s practice and missed out on Friday and Saturday’s training camp practices at Grand Park. Reich said the foot problem likely stemmed from an injury Wentz may have suffered in high school.

The Colts have four more quarterbacks in their roster in Jacob Eason, Sam Ehlinger, Brett Hundley and Jalen Morton.

“The job is Jacob’s at the moment,” Reich said.

Eason has stepped up in Wentz’s absence, and the Colts believe he will continue to improve as he gets more shots in training – this after barely taking any practice reps in training. 2020 while he was behind Philip Rivers and Jacoby Brissett.

“It’s definitely going to give him more confidence because now he’s going to be able to imagine these games in his head,” Brady said last week. “It’s going to make him think a lot faster, it’s going to speed up his vision so it’s good that he’s able to accumulate all these reps.”
