Bengals recruit Anarumo as defensive coordinator

The Cincinnati Bengals announced today the hiring of Lou Anarumo as the defensive coordinator.

Anarumo, 52, is coming to New York from the New York Giants, where he coached the defensemen in 2018. Before joining the Giants last season, he coached defensemen for the Miami Dolphins from 2012-17.

"I've always had great respect for Lou and I know he's an excellent defensive coach," said Bengals head coach Zac Taylor. "It's perfect for what we want to build here in Cincinnati. Lou is an excellent communicator for whom the players will have great respect and he will make the most of it. "

During his time with Miami, Anarumo also served as interim defense coordinator for the Dolphins for the last 12 games of the season in 2015, after the team had made in-season changes.

Prior to the Dolphins, Anarumo was a university coach for 20 seasons from 1992 to 2011. He began his coaching career as a defensive coordinator / defensive back coach at the US Merchant Marine Academy (1992- 1994). 01-03) and Purdue University (2004-11).

A native of Staten Island, N.Y., Anarumo earned a Bachelor of Education degree from Wagner College in 1990. Her last name is pronounced "ann-ah-ROO-mo."
