Nissan lowers 2022 LEAF price to $ 27.5,000, to less than $ 20,000 after Fed tax credit

Move on, Mini Electric, there’s an affordable new EV in town. Nissan has released pricing for its all-electric 2022 Nissan LEAF, and it’s pretty aggressive. The automaker has cut the price of the LEAF by more than $ 4,200 over the 2021 models, making it the most affordable electric vehicle in the United States… at least for now.

Although the LEAF remains the only Nissan BEV for sale, it is one of the oldest electric vehicle models in the United States, having debuted in 2010. In fact, the Nissan LEAF was the Best-selling rechargeable electric vehicle for years until the Tesla Model 3 arrived.

Interestingly, Nissan has only released the LEAF yet since it was so early to deliver an EV to the public. The automaker’s plans appeared to have been scuttled when former CEO Carlos Ghosn was ousted, jailed and subsequently fled to Lebanon.

In addition, the automaker has ingeniously used its own technology to recycle old LEAF batteries, for example. That being said, Nissan has a second EV on the horizon in the upcoming Ariya.

More recently, Nissan shared plans for an electric crossover to be built at a new factory in the UK. While Nissan appears to have more EV offerings on the horizon, its latest focus remains on its LEAF’s 2022 model year, along with massive price cuts.

Nissan drops price of 2022 LEAF by more than $ 6.5,000

According to Nissan’s US website, the new 2022 LEAFs have arrived at prices below $ 30,000. The most basic version of the 2022 Nissan LEAF is currently listed at an MSRP of $ 27,400 before taxes, title, license, handling or destination fees.

Still, the new price for the Nissan LEAF 2022 is well under $ 30,000 and $ 1,500 less than the starting MSRP of the MINI Electric – previously the cheapest electric vehicle available in the United States.

This is also a huge price drop from the 2021 Nissan LEAFs, which were selling for over $ 31,000 at an all-time low.

There are several different variations of the 2022 Nissan LEAF available, and not all of them start under $ 30,000. Here is their price before taxes, destination fees or federal discounts compared to the 2021 versions:

As you can see, all prices have dropped by at least $ 4,200 and topped the $ 6,500 for the 2022 Nissan LEAF SL Plus. These also might not be the only savings the newer ones have. LEAF buyers might realize.

U.S. Federal Tax Credit Can Get 2022 LEAF Less Than $ 20,000

According to the Federal Tax Credit page of fueleconomy.gov, Nissan is still entitled to the full tax refund of $ 7,500 for electric vehicles. That means if you bought the 2022 Nissan LEAF S and qualified for full credit, you could get it for an MSRP of $ 19,900.

There will be additional charges for taxes, licenses, destination fees, etc., but it’s still a huge deal for a brand new electric vehicle.
