Addition of Andre Drummond gives Sixers two of the worst FT shooters in the league

The Philadelphia 76ers made a very interesting move on Tuesday when they signed a one-year contract with former All-Star Andre Drummond. Drummond is a solid center, but considering they already have a bad free throw shooter, his addition means they now have two of the worst in the league.

Ben Simmons, who just finished a 34.2% free throw performance in the 2021 playoffs, is a career shooter with 59.7% free throws. It’s good for the eighth worst among all active players in the league.

Drummond, meanwhile, is a career 47% free throw shooter. His addition gives the Sixers two of the last 10 free throw shooters among active NBA players.

Interestingly, Philadelphia brought in Drummond after President Daryl Morey’s comments about wanting big men who are switchable and can shoot. Drummond doesn’t do any of those things, and he would be a bad fit next to Simmons in games Joel Embiid can’t play.

Drummond also tends not to have bad effort games. It’s almost like his focus just isn’t there on a cohesive basis, which makes the movement a bit confusing. Combine it all with his poor free throw shot and it’s certainly a questionable move.
