“I hope to quit social media for a while to take care of my mind and my family. My mom was a great woman and will always live through me. My number one guardian angel,” she wrote. “I will love you always and forever.”
Details of Clarissa Saunders’ death were not known.
Saunders won the silver medal in that event over the weekend and caused a stir when she stepped down from the stand and crossed her arm in an “X” shape over her head. She explained that the “X” is “the intersection of where all oppressed people meet.”

The move sparked an investigation by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) even after the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) said it had not broken its rules regarding athlete protests.
The IOC announced on Wednesday that it was suspending its investigation into the death of Saunders’ mother.
“The IOC obviously offers its condolences to Raven and her family,” said IOC spokesperson Mark Adams. “In view of these circumstances, the process is currently fully suspended.”
