We’ve heard of Sol Cresta – a sequel to arcade shoot-’em-ups Moon crest and Terra Cresta – around April Fool’s Day this year, and, honestly, we weren’t sure if Platinum Games was pulling our paws (in part because it has been their April Fool’s joke for 2020). But now, a few months later, they’ve released a (very real) trailer, which names Hideki Kamiya as the screenwriter, and Yuzo Koshiro (Kid Icarus: Uprising, Smash Bros., Etrian Odyssey) for the music for the game.
Previous Cresta games were both top-to-bottom space shooters, with the added gadget of having to “dock” your ship to move forward.
Both games were created by Japanese developer Nichibutsu and designed for arcade machines, but after studio founder Sueharu Torii retired, the rights to their video game library were sold to the Japanese publisher. Hamster Corporation, which is responsible for Arcade Archives on Switch.
The game will appear in Hamster’s “Neoclassical Arcade Series Vol. 1“.
Although the game was announced for 2021 earlier this year, the trailer appears to imply a release date of 2022 – before pushing the date back to 2021. We see what you did there, Platinum.
