The 49ers climb the preseason ranks

The 49ers ran a relatively uneventful training camp, but rookie quarterback Trey Lance had made enough waves to support San Francisco’s expectations this season. They landed 13th on the NFL Wire’s pre-season power rankings, up three spots from their place in the pre-practice camp ranks.

Health is a major concern for the 49ers and so far everything is going very well on that front. All eyes then turn to the quarterback, where Jimmy Garoppolo remains the leader for the Week 1 starting position. He can lead the club to the Super Bowl if he and the rest of the roster are healthy.

On the flip side, it’s impossible to take note of Lance’s rise and not wonder how high the 49ers cap is this year.

Injury luck and quarterback play have been the deciding factors in each of Kyle Shanahan’s three seasons as a head coach, and they’ve already helped the 49ers move up the preseason standings. The trend for San Francisco is on the rise, however, which is the direction clubs want to take at the start of their preseason schedule.
