Foo Fighters vs. Westboro Baptist Church Third Round.
As the group led by Dave Grohl continues their nationwide tour, the rockers have encountered a few surprises – including a postponed concert, the fight against anti-vaxxers, and a guest appearance by Dave Chappelle.
The latest surprise involves the Westboro Baptist Church protesting the band’s performance on August 5 in Bonner Springs, Kan. Protesters stood outside the Azura Amphitheater, holding up a series of signs reading “No Peace For The Wicked” and “God Hates Your Idols.
In The Ultimate Troll, the group arrived in a flatbed truck each wearing Bee Gees influenced outfits – inspired by their new alter egos the “Dee Gees,” the latest gadget on the tour.
Grohl, 52, addressed the crowd just before the band covered “You Should Be Dancing” from the Bee Gees.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I have something to say,” he said. “Because you know what?” I like you! I do. The way I see it, I love everyone. Isn’t that what you’re supposed to do? Can’t you love everyone? Because I think it’s about love. That’s what I think. I release all my love, and you shouldn’t hate me. Do you know what you should do? You should be dancing! “
Prior to their tour, the Foo Fighters – under the pseudonym “Dee Gees” – recorded their most recent album, “Hail Satin”, which featured their light covers of Bee Gees songs.
Grohl and his group mates are no strangers to the Westboro Baptist Church protests. Ten years ago, like the most recent showdown, the group gave an impromptu concert flat to troll protesters. Once again in 2015, the group pulled a gag on protesters in Kansas City when the Rick group rolled the crowds out, eventually drowning out the vocals and subsequently creating a “giant dance party.”
After the last showdown, it’s safe to say the Foo Fighters are three-on-three against the Westboro Baptist Church protesters.
