It was the first time in over 500 days that fans had been present inside Gillette Stadium for all things Patriots related. It was the lightest practice to date, as the Patriots wore only helmets and sweatshirts for a split squad visit. Cam Newton and Mac Jones both started for their respective teams as the Patriots prepare for their first preseason game next Thursday night.

Remarks
- Tonight it was all about preparing for a playing environment. Both teams had a warm-up, the captains met in midfield before kick-off and both teams headed to their respective sidelines. It wasn’t the most entertaining product, but tonight it was all about the little things; get the right players on the pitch on the fly, get everyone to their tasks before you slam the ball. With one less preseason game on the schedule this year, it was clear that Belichick’s staff wanted to give the team at least one more game experience before facing Washington next Thursday night.
- As for the quarterbacks, it was a light day for Jones and Newton after they had an intense padded workout on Thursday. The two were split into teams and each had a fair share of starters in their respective teams. The Patriots will have Saturday off before returning to the training ground on Sunday for a padded session at 3 p.m.
- It was a night reserved for specialists. Although Nick Folk did not participate in the walkthrough tonight, he was present on the sidelines. Undrafted kicker Quinn Nordin had a lot of work going with 8 for 8.
- After leaving Tuesday’s session and coming back Wednesday, then missing Thursday, second round Christian Barmore was not present for tonight’s visit. Sources say he has a blister on his foot and the Patriots are slowly taking him on with the rookie.
