James Euringer, the singer and songwriter of the New York punk group Mindless Self Indulgence who performs under the name Jimmy Urine, was prosecuted for sexual assault on a minor. The lawsuit was filed today in the New York Supreme Court, Rolling stone the reports and documents consulted by Pitchfork confirm this.
The woman, identified as Jane Doe and remained anonymous, claims in the lawsuit that she and Euringer had sex from 1997 to 1999 from the age of 15 and 27. The complaint states that Euringer began “to prepare and manipulate the plaintiff into believing that his sexual assault behavior was not criminal and that he and the plaintiff were in fact in a relationship.”
The lawsuit argues that Euringer admitted that she was underage and behaved “as if she were his girlfriend and that the two were in a consensual relationship”. He also notes that he provided her with a fake ID so that she could join him at concerts and drink alcohol, asked her to “act like a little child” during sexual acts, and to “play cool” in public and only show affection in private. .
There is a section of the lawsuit outlining the story of Mindless Self Indulgence’s shock tactics under the heading “Euringer is a Self-Identified and Self-Promoted Pedophile”. Play A is a Drummer Seeker commercial circa 1996, which looks for someone who “doesn’t mind drumming for a bunch of pedophiles.” The complaint also points to the artwork for the years 1999 Greenhouse and the lyrics to the song “Panty Shot”.
James Galus, manager and producer of Mindless Self Indulgence, is also named in the lawsuit alongside Elektra and Warner Music Group. Galus and the labels are sued for negligence and complicity in sexual drums.
Pitchfork has contacted the Eururinger representative for comment.
