Carl Lawson Dominates Jets Practice With Multiple Sacks

Observations of the practice of the Jets Monday.

Make the law’

OLB Carl Lawson continues to terrorize the offensive line and shows signs of living up to his big contract. He had three “sacks” in training, including one where he slapped Wilson on the shoulder before a hasty failure.

QB shuffle

When quarterback Mike White stepped on his foot and limped off the field during second-team drills, well-traveled newcomer Josh Johnson – not second-year pro James Morgan – stepped in. Just a reminder of the dangers of the Jets quarterback’s depth, especially if an abnormal injury happens to Wilson. White returned later.

Caught my attention

WR Corey Davis made a bounding touchdown in the corner of the end zone on a well-placed Wilson ball. He then landed a touchdown on a loop in the middle on the next snap in the red zone period. Good versatility.

Zach Wilson’s day

Wilson was 5 for 13 in team periods, including the two touchdowns at Davis, a well-zipped completion juggled by Keelan Cole and an incomplete failure. His best streak was a 4-for-4 with all four touchdowns from the 10-yard line in a seven-on-seven period, although he held the ball longer than naturally.

Medical report

OL Alijah Vera-Tucker, OT Cam Clark, CB Benneet Jackson, CB Isaiah Dunn, DL Del’Shawn Phillips and DL Jabari Zuniga did not practice among those on the active roster.
