While promoting The Suicide Squad, James Gunn assesses the complications of a possible showdown between the Justice League and Task Force X.

James Gunn commented on if he ever sat down in the director’s chair to film a cross between the Justice League and the Suicide squad.

“Ummm … you convinced me,” Gunn joked when Singaporean broadcaster Channel News Asia asked him to work on Suicide Squad vs. Justice League one day. “Uh … okay.”

After a moment of laughter, Gunn elaborated, stressing that he “should think about it”.

“I haven’t thought about a Suicide Squad vs. Justice League movie, but it’s not a bad idea, you know, “Gunn said.” But I think I have to find out who the Justice League is first, because I have no idea. I’m here in the middle of DC; everyone always asks me if Henry Cavill is still Superman? I don’t know who Superman is! Who knows!”

While Cavill’s future as a Man of Steel remains in the air, there is a very real-life model for a cross between the heroes of the Hall of Justice and the anti-heroes of Task Force X. The Six Issues Justice League vs. Suicide Squad was the first major crossover for DC’s “Rebirth” initiative, hitting comic book stores in 2017 with a story that saw the two teams collide their heads as Maxwell Lord pulled the strings backstage.

the Suicide Team is currently in theaters and available to stream on HBO Max.
