Only eight intensive care unit beds were available in the state on Monday when hospitalizations in the state increased from 103 to 1,376, the largest daily increase since the start of the pandemic.

The number of covid-19 patients in intensive care increased from 26 to 509.

“Today’s report shows some very surprising numbers,” Governor Asa Hutchinson said on Twitter on Monday. “We saw the biggest increase in single-day hospitalizations and eclipsed our previous record for COVID hospitalizations. There are currently only eight intensive care beds available in the state. Vaccinations are reducing hospitalizations. “

These eight intensive care unit beds are all that is available to any patient, not just those with covid-19.

The number of available intensive care beds fell by nine beds from Sunday, when there were 17 available intensive care beds.

The number of people hospitalized with the virus in the state fell from 1,273 on Sunday to 1,376 on Monday, a jump of 103 from a slight drop of 17 on Friday.

The state’s death toll from the virus, as tracked by the health ministry, increased by 21, to 6,322.

There were 995 new cases of covid-19 on Monday – the first time in the past seven days that the number has fallen below 1,000, but higher than it was last Monday when the number of new ones reported cases was 844.

With new cases exceeding recoveries, the number of cases in the state considered active rose to 22,815.

The number of patients infected with the virus who were on ventilators increased from 25 to 286.

During this time, the number of vaccine doses providers reported giving, including second doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, increased by 5,115.
