In their first summer league game, the Bucks managed to take out the Los Angeles Clippers 81-78, thanks in large part to a 30-point performance from Jordan Nwora.

The two teams would be roughly equal throughout the first 12 minutes. Mamadi Diakite was the Bucks’ top scorer in the first quarter, with seven points. Sandro Mamukelashvili scored three points in his first stint. The Bucks would hang on to a 19-17 lead after one.

An 11-4 led by Milwaukee in the second quarter would open things up. Jordan Nwora would start to tear himself up during the period, dropping 6 of 8 from the floor in the frame. It would help cap a solid first half for the Bucks as they would have a 46-30 advantage in the locker room.

Milwaukee would continue to hold onto the lead in the third quarter. However, the Clippers have managed to cut corners and become a single-digit ball game again. At the start of the last regulation period, the Bucks were still holding a 62-53 lead.

The Los Angeles run would continue into the fourth quarter as they eventually passed Milwaukee early in the period. They held the lead for most of the quarter, but a solid defense from the Bucks in the dying minutes helped them to the win, 81-78.

The players who stood out

Jordan Nwora: Jordan Nwora’s scoring skills are starting to shine more and more. When he started games last year for the Bucks, he wouldn’t waste time shooting. We saw this level of production from him at the Olympics when he also represented Nigeria. Tonight was no different, as he scored 30 points on a whopping 28 shot attempts. He’s certainly not afraid to shoot basketball, and it will be intriguing to watch him the rest of this preseason.

Mamadi Diakite: Mamadi showed off the talent that helped him spark excitement among Bucks fans in the G League last season. In the first quarter, he had a series of pretty effective plays. He had a workout to the hoop, then a jab-step jumper, then a three at the top of the wrench. A well-balanced night for the man from Virginia.

Sandro Mamukelashvili: Selected in the second round with the 54 pick by Milwaukee, it was the first time we’ve seen Mamu in action. One of his attributes coming from Seton Hall was his ability to pass basketball, and that was on display tonight – two games came to mind. On a possession, he gave an enveloping pass to Mamadi Diakite. Then, later in the game, he passed a pass to Jordan Nwora who sank a 3-point quarterback. Mamu will definitely be fun to watch for the rest of the Summer League.
