Preparation for production of Tesla Model Y at the automaker’s Gigafactory Texas has gained momentum in recent times. A few images of the interior of Giga Texas have leaked via a local observer, Joe Tegtmeyer. These images show that a production line of test vehicles is now operational in this automobile manufacturing plant.
Last week Joe received advice from one of his sources that Giga Texas will be rolling out its first Tesla Model Y test and calibration electric SUV this week. The following image Joe got from the factory in Tesla vehicles in Austin, TX, date in early August (last week). This image shows a few Model Y test vehicle body frames lined up at the body shop.
If we take a close look at the image above, we can see that the frame of the Model Y outside the body shop is coated with a coat of primer. But the frame inside the body shop is still metal, and a primer will likely be applied afterwards.
The following image, which was taken in early July, also shows a Model Y body with the primer coat. Looks like there are several frames in this first batch for which the primer is applied one by one.
Giga Texas is expected to start the 1st batch of Model Y pre-production testing this week. These are test cars for calibration and training, not for sale. Tesla’s goal is to start initial production in early October. There is a lot going on inside and out! pic.twitter.com/EpI3GKzXTF

There is also a lot of activity outside of the vehicle gigafactory. Tesla is also building a test track in Giga Texas. In the near future we will see some very interesting acceleration from Cybertruck on this test track.

In his latest Giga Texas drone flyover video, Joe created the following infographic of the factory using the satellite view from Google Maps. It marked the entire area, sub-areas and the current building on the map with specific areas covered by each installation like the Model Y factory, the battery cathode factory, etc.
This is a very useful image for understanding the location of every facility and building inside the automaker’s huge gigafactory in Austin, Texas.
