Shocker: 2022 Toyota Tundra pickup overtakes Ford, GM with modern coil-spring suspension

The 2022 Toyota Tundra takes the giant leap towards a coil-spring rear suspension, eschewing the traditional leaf-spring configuration used by Ford and General Motors.

The design was revealed in the latest teaser images of the full-size truck set to go on sale this fall.

The last two generations of Ram pickups have been fitted with coil springs, which weigh less and provide improved ride quality and handling, according to supporters.

Toyota also introduced the front suspension of the TRD Pro off-road model, which is equipped with a heavy anti-roll bar and high-performance Fox shocks.

The exterior of the truck has already been revealed, following leaked photos posted on the internet, and additional images suggest that it will be powered by a more powerful turbocharged V6 than the current V8.

The front underbody of the TRD Pro is protected by a heavy skid plate.

Toyota has said the new Tundra is “here to win it” and that an even more powerful option that “will blow your mind” will be available, which perhaps includes hybrid technology.
