There is a Guardian of the Galaxy in The Suicide Squad

The suicide squad marks Marvel Cinematic Universe director James Gunn’s debut film for his DC rivals, but the film still includes plenty of MCU crossovers. Before Idris Elba played Bloodsport for Gunn, he kept the Bifröst as Heimdall in Thor and its consequences; Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and thunder director Taika Waititi plays The suicide squadRatcatcher, appearing in flashbacks as the father of Ratcatcher 2.

But there’s someone else in the MCU that fans might have missed The suicide squad. In a new interview with Variety, James Gunn says that “nobody, not a single person” told him “that there is a Guardian of the Galaxy in The suicide squad. “For those who haven’t noticed, in the scene where members of Task Force X go to the seedy bar Corto Maltese La Gatita Amable, one of the dancers is played by Mantis herself, Pom Klementieff. Gunn, who has been paying attention to what fans are saying about the film on Twitter, says he only saw two tweets where people spotted her. And Klementieff hasn’t had many people contacting her about the cameo either, according to Gunn: “I spoke to Pom the other day – I’m like, did people ask you? ? She’s like, yeah, a few people. But it is simply not recognized. I’m like, what’s going on? I can not believe !

Klementieff first played Mantis – who has empathic powers that allow him to sense and manipulate the emotions of others through touch – in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. She appeared as the character of Infinity war and End of Game, and is set to reprise his role in Thor: Love and thunder Next year.

In the same interview, Gunn addressed The film’s poor opening weekend box office debut, saying, “The suicide squad is meant to be seen primarily on the big screen. I think it will work very well on TV. Look, movies don’t last because they’re seen on the big screen, ”he says. “Movies last because they are seen on television. Jaws is not yet a classic because people watch it in the movies. I’ve never seen Jaws in a movie theater. It’s one of my favorite movies.

With the Delta variant spreading around the world at an overwhelming speed, it’s understandable that, given the option to watch it at home on HBO Max, many would prefer to do so. Gunn understands this too, saying that while he would like his movies to be watched in theaters, he’s still not entirely sure if he does. “We still have COVID because people won’t get vaccinated, which they should, you know. Hopefully – hope this won’t be a big deal for us in a year from now. And if so, what will happen? We do not know. Nobody knows. I care, because I would prefer people to be able to go to the movies. But also, if they don’t, I’m not going to slit my wrists. I don’t care, he explains.
