A new preliminary ruling issued on August 8, 2021 by District Judge Kathleen Williams will allow cruise lines to require proof of COVID-19 vaccination from passengers before they are allowed to board a ship.

This move is significant because it directly contradicts the continued pressure from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in May 2021 that “vaccine passports” are not required by law.

According to Reuters, the US judge in charge of the case said the cruise line in question, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., could potentially prevail because it could endanger the public health of those in the area. on board the ship. There is also the issue of the unconstitutional violation of the rights of the company as a fleet.

Violations of the law by the cruise line, if in place, could amount to more than $ 5,000 per passenger.

The cruise line will continue to operate as planned on August 15 from the port.
