How to tell if your iPhone or iPad is infected with Pegasus spyware

Usually it is not easy to install spyware on smartphones and tablets, and especially on iPhone or iPad. Corn Pegasus spyware is an exception. In July 2021, researchers found that Pegasus had infected some smartphones journalists, activists and politicians.

What makes Pegasus so deadly is the fact that the user does not need to do anything to activate it. In some cases, you only need to receive a message to install the spyware, and oOnce installed, it gives the hacker full access to the device and its data.

Pegasus is, of course, targeted spyware, and Apple probably (if unofficially) included a fix in iOS 14.7.1 update.

Corn if you are curious about if your iPhone or iPad is running Pegasus spyware now, now there is an easy way to find out. iMazing, a third-party iPhone and iPad management tool, has included spyware detection capability for free with software version 2.14.

After downloading the iMazing software to your Mac or PC, connect your iPhone or iPad and unlock your device. Select your device in the iMazing app and choose the “Detect spyware”Option.

Then follow the instructions in the the assistant by pressing the “Next”Three times to download the necessary data and accept the conditions. Finally, click on the “Start analysis”Button to start the process.

The iMazing app will download the data, back up your iPhone or iPad, and start scanning your device for Spyware. It may take a while — for tests, the process took about 30 minutes to create the backup. When the backup is complete, iMazing will ask you to enter the backup encryption password (if you have set one top) and get down to business.

If your device is infected, the first step is not to panic. It may be a false positive, repeat the test to be on the safe side. You can also send the report to iMazing’s customer service team for further analysis.

And meif you get a positive result, and especially if you or your family members are politically active in a way that could endanger you in your country, iMazing advises you immediately turn off your device and remove the SIM card. You can then eliminate the infection, whether it’s restoring from an old backup (and scanningthis to make sure it is not infected too) or by erasing all your data from the device and starting from scratch.
