With the excitement growing surrounding the Bears quarterback’s situation with first-round rookie Justin Fields, it’s hard to believe that just over a year ago, it was Mitch Trubisky and Nick Foles competing for the departure station.
After four years of inconsistency where he never lived up to his first-round billing, Trubisky has found a new home with the Bills, where he serves as a replacement for Josh Allen.
Trubisky met with the Buffalo media on Tuesday, where he discussed how he recovers “that love for the game” with the Bills, where he inadvertently shot the Bears in the process.
“It’s nice to be in a place where people want you and care about your progress as a person and a player,” Trubisky said.

While Trubisky peaked in 2018, in his best season with Matt Nagy, he failed to take the next step in the next two years. After winning the starting position at Foles last training camp, he was benched in week 3 before replacing Foles in week 12.
While he had shown signs of improvement over the past six weeks, it was ultimately more of the same with Trubisky – an inability to read defenses and inconsistent issues with accuracy. So it was no surprise that the Bears let him go on free will.
Overall, parting was better for both parties. Trubisky makes a fresh start in Buffalo, where he gets the chance to work with Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll as the Bears draft their franchise quarterback at Fields.
Still, Trubisky’s comments will make things interesting in a few weeks, as Trubisky returns to Soldier Field on August 21 when Chicago hosts Buffalo in week two of the preseason.
