Man firing gun sparks SWAT situation near Johns Creek Elementary School – WSB-TV Channel 2

JOHNS CREEK, GA – Johns Creek Police said they were investigating a SWAT situation near an elementary school.

Police said they were called to a neighborhood near Abbotts Hill Elementary School along Abbotts Bridge Road on a shooting call. Officers say a man who lives across the street was shooting a gun.

“It was just a 911 call in reference to shots fired at residents. Upon arrival, more shots were fired at the time. Everyone is doing well right now, ”said Sgt. Tyler Seymour with the Johns Creek Police Department.

When the police arrived at the house, he entered the house and refused to come out.

Investigators said they were working with schools in Fulton County to help free students from the school.

Officers said parents must enter the Parsons Road school to bring their students.

Schools in Fulton County sent us this statement:

“Due to an incident in a neighborhood near Abbotts Hill Primary School, we have placed the school in progressive lockdown mode. Police confirmed the school was not in imminent danger. As always, safety is the main concern.

“The Johns Creek Police Department has established a command post on our campus and is coordinating with Fulton County Police.

“Students are released on a regular schedule and all steps are taken to create a safe and orderly dismissal. Traffic, buses and car pick-up will be diverted from the area where the incident occurs. Students who live in the affected neighborhood or return home on foot, will stay in school until they can be safely returned to parents / guardians.

Police said there was no threat to the neighborhood or the nearby school.
