Tech startups like to claim disruptor status, although few can honestly do so. Wyze is one of the few companies in recent years that has truly changed a whole market, in this case the home security industry. The inexpensive devices from Wyze, security cameras To video doorbells, lobbied everyone from tech giants to other startups to radically rethink pricing. And Wyze starts over with a new $ 50 Spotlight Cam.
The Wyze Spotlight Cam, launched today on the Wyze website, isn’t a new camera: it’s Wyze Cam v3 from 2020, one of our favorite smart cameras from last year, with a projector attached to the top. The Wyze Cam launched at $ 24, but has since seen price increases of up to $ 36 following equipment shortages, according to the company.
Even at $ 36, however, the Wyze Cam v3 offers almost unbeatable value, and compared to other projector cameras on the market, that value is even more pronounced.
Of course, the comparison is not exactly apples to apples. The Wyze Cam Spotlight has no adjustable colors or brightness, and it only emits about 70 lumens of light, versus, say, the 1800 lumens of the Ring Floodlight or the 300+ lumens of the Ring Spotlight. Additionally, the Wyze Cam Spotlight must be wired for power.
Otherwise, the Wyze camera retains all of the v3 specs, including a 130-degree field of view, 1080p resolution, and an IP65 waterproof rating.
The Wyze Cam Spotlight is available for pre-order starting today.
