During a recent appearance on the Bertcast podcast, Italian comedian and actor Sebastian Maniscalco hinted that he would record lines for an upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie.

For years, an animated film based on the iconic Nintendo franchise has been in development, but fans haven’t heard too much about it. Speaking to comedian Bert Kreischer on the podcast (via Nintendo Wire), however, Maniscalco said that later today he would record lines for Foreman Spike in the film.
“I’m in the movie Super Mario Bros., the animated film playing Spike, their boss, ”he said.
For those who don’t know, Foreman Spike is, as Maniscalco puts it, the “boss” of Mario and Luigi who appears in the 1985 NES game. Demolition team, as well as the release in Japan The Demolition Crew ’98. Spikes appearances in the game come across as someone who tries to hinder Mario at all times, and someone the player has to compete with during certain bonus stages as well.

We don’t know much else about the Super Mario Bros. film, aside from that, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto would produce the film alongside Chris Meledandri of Illumination. For now, it looks like the companies behind the film are content to keep things very low key ahead of a potential release in 2022.
