After deciding to take the Old Man of the Grand Plateau on an adventure, a Breath of the Wild fan discovers that the NPC has a lookalike.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is full of exciting and sometimes weird adventures. With a world teeming with nooks and crannies to explore, the amount of possible secrets to uncover in Hyrule is seemingly endless. Recently, a fan discovered a peculiarity of the Grand Plateau: the Old Man is in fact a number of Old Men.
At the beginning of Breath of the wild, Link wakes up in the Sanctuary of Resurrection and finds that he is in the area known as the Grand Plateau. Starting region of the game, this place allows the player to find his way around before allowing him to travel wherever he sees fit. During this early segment of the game, the player has several encounters with an NPC known as Old Man. This masked figure with a snow-white beard helps Link start his journey.
While NPCs like the Old Man occasionally appear throughout the adventure, Breath of the wild is often a solo experience, leaving Link to explore hidden areas of the world on his own. However, one fan decided to change that and take the Old Man from the Grand Plateau with them on a trip. Known as ThornyFox on Reddit, this player realized that the old man encountered at the start of the game can be moved slightly by bumping into him. After discovering that the NPC could apparently be pushed across the entire Grand Plateau area, ThornyFox decided to take “the old man to meet his long lost brother”.
After continuing to push the Old Man through the map for an extremely long time, the player finally reached the edge of a wooded area. Upon arriving at the scene, the player stumbles upon a small cabin with a burning fire outside. This sometimes overlooked place is the old man’s house. A strange thing happens when the player reaches the accommodation with the elderly gentleman in tow. As they approach the campfire outside the house, they discover that the old man is apparently in two places at once as two identical versions of the old man are visible. While the developers probably wanted the player to see only one of the Old Man character models at a time, they hadn’t expected someone with the patience and determination of ThornyFox to push the NPC through the area. .
It will be interesting to see what other Easter Egg players find out over the next few months while we wait for the release of Breath of the Wild 2. After receiving a trailer for the game at E3 2021, the best-selling sequel Zelda The all-time title is slated for release in 2022. Until then, players like ThornyFox will have to continue to see what other secrets they can uncover in the 2017 game.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available now on Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
