Strand Craft’s Daytona jet ski is like a V-8 muscle car for water – Robb Report

There’s the jet skis, and then there’s Kurt Strand’s high octane oceanic beast. The famous yacht designer, who runs US company Strand Craft, has unveiled what he considers to be the industry’s first V-8 powered watercraft.

Allow us to introduce the new Strand Craft V-8 Daytona GT to you. In gestation for more than five years, the menacing jet ski “combines power and speed” for unbridled sensations. Think of it as the Shelby Daytona of the high seas. While details are decidedly scarce, there are a few specs to excite sailors.

Although it has the slender silhouette of a sports coupe, the Daytona is no less imposing. The towering craft, which will likely be constructed of fiberglass or aluminum, measures nearly 17 feet long by 5 feet wide and weighs 1,250 pounds. This makes it a bit bigger and heavier than an average jet ski.

It is also more powerful. Much like an American muscle car, the Daytona packs a punishing V-8. The 6.2-liter aluminum engine will be supercharged for more growl, although Strand Craft hasn’t specified a top speed. Suffice it to say, this thing is sure to cut the waves.

The cabin is equipped with a large 15-inch touchscreen that displays all engine functions. It’s also equipped with a premium audio system that can play the required cruising tunes and an under-seat cooler where you can store refreshments. Elsewhere, there is a storage box in the front that can hold additional gear.

With luxury a central design principle, Strand Craft has listed a myriad of sophisticated optional features. Customers can opt for carbon fiber bodywork, wood inlays, custom trailer, or custom packaging, to name a few. You can even add an underwater camera or shock absorber seats if you want.

“Beautiful, powerful and luxurious. These three adjectives inspired my design for a new watercraft concept, ”Strand writes on the website. “I wanted to create a model that combines power and speed with the grace and elegance of Strand Craft’s design heritage.

The company didn’t quote a price for the Daytona, but boldly declares “you dream it, we build it.” We hope to see some of these particular dreams soon.
