Arizona rescue teams rescued three people trapped in a pickup truck as raging floodwaters surrounded the vehicle near Tucson on Tuesday after a monsoon triggered flash floods in the southeastern state.
Teams from the Golder Ranch Fire District (GRFD) and Northwest Fire District responded to two whitewater rescues in La Cholla and Overton before 8 a.m., GRFD said.

Rescuers shared video of a rescue that shows crews pulling a woman from a van and transporting her to safety as swift muddy water rushed around them. Two other people were also rescued from the vehicle.

“The water was rising and was deep for our people, so we are using the ladder to get vests for the three patients in case they fall and float,” Robb said. “And then it was determined that on the other side of the river it was a little shallower for them to go in and out the patients one by one and get them out on the other side.”

During a second rescue the same morning, the driver of the vehicle was able to escape, said GRFD.
the National Meteorological Service had issued flash flood warnings and advisories for the area, which recorded up to 3 inches of rain in the Santa Catalina Mountains near Tucson.
