The Boston Celtics were eliminated in the first round of the 2021 NBA Playoffs, but have retooled and will return as a different team.
First and foremost, longtime Boston executive Danny Aingé was replaced at the front office by the former Celtics head coach Brad stevens. Meanwhile, Stevens was replaced as head coach by Imé Udoka.
Kemba walker is now a member of the New York Knicks while Al horford and Its edges both returned to wear the Celtics’ green.
Dennis schröder will move from one legendary franchise to another as it makes the leap from the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference to Boston in the East.
For now, here’s what the depth chart will look like for the Celtics once the season begins:
ENTRANCE: Dennis schröder
DEPTH: Payton Pritchard, Kris Dunn, Yam Madar *
After a season with the Los Angeles Lakers, veteran goaltender Dennis schröder did not get the money he was looking for in free agency. But he landed on his feet with his new home, giving Boston a capable starter to that one. Meanwhile, as he prepares for his second season in the league, the point guard Payton pritchard has been one of the stars of the Vegas Summer League so far. Yam Madar, who was a 2020 draft pick, will need a buyout on his contract if the Celtics are to offer him a spot on the roster for 2021-22.
ENTRANCE: Marcus Intelligent
DEPTH: Josh Richardson, Kris Dunn, Carsen Edwards
As long as they have Marcus Intelligent on their lineup, Boston’s defense will always have a sense of grain and versatility. But they also have strong defensive players in Josh richardson (acquired through the Dallas Mavericks trade) and Kris dunn (acquired via trade as part of a three-team deal) added this offseason. Dunn’s future with the organization uncertain, according to Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer.
ENTRANCE: Jaylen brown
DEPTH: Aaron Nesmith, Romeo Langford
While in the midst of a career best season in 2020-21, the Boston winger Jaylen brown suffered an injury that ruled him out of the playoffs. Next season, he can build on the momentum he has had as one of the league’s emerging stars. The Celtics also have a pair of recent lottery picks in their wing rotation in Aaron Nesmith and Romeo Langford. Both prospects would bring a ton of extra value to the organization if they made a leap forward into next season.
ENTRANCE: Jayson tatum
DEPTH: Grant Williams, Jabari Parker, Sam Hauser
The Celtics found their future superstar in Jayson tatum, who averaged 26.4 points per game and 7.4 rpg with 4.3 per game last season. But the rest of their frontcourt rotation is a bit more blurry. Grant williams is a solid player who can add positive value to both sides of the ball. Otherwise, Boston has decisions to make when it comes to how they use their limited spaces. It could mean the end of the road for Jabari parker, who has an unsecured deal for next season.
ENTRANCE: Al horford
DEPTH: Robert Williams, Enes Kanter, Bruno Fernando
For one of his first major transactions as the new NBA executive, Brad stevens negotiated Kemba walker land the fat veteran Al Horford – a player he coached from 2016 to 2019. Otherwise, Boston’s frontcourt is a bit crowded. Robert williams has proven himself as a viable defender and rim protector, so he is assured of minutes. But the team also signed a big contract in Boston. Its edges for a meeting and traded for Bruno Fernando. The latter can be used for future trips or simply stored for depth.
