The Criterion Collection has announced plans to release a list of six classics on 4K Blu-ray for the first time, including a re-release of Orson Welles’ American epic. Citizen Kane.
Besides being a big favorite with moviegoers, Criterion is also releasing the following films as part of its initial Ultra High Definition Blu-ray collection:
- Menace II Society directed by Allen and Albert Hughes
- The piano directed by Jane Campion
- Mulholland Dr. directed by David Lynch
- The Red Shoes directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger
- A hard day’s Night directed by Richard Lester
Criterion writes that each release will include the movie in 4K UHD with traditional 1080p Blu-ray printing. Special features, arguably one of the biggest strengths of the Criterion collection, will also be included on the Blu-ray. Some selected films will even support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
The company didn’t say when to expect the new Blu-rays, but said it would announce more details next week alongside its November release schedule. In the meantime, if you don’t want to wait for physical media, you can stream a whole host of movies on the Criterion Channel streaming service.
