Most smartwatches that are compatible with Android smartphones generally also support Apple’s iOS platform, but that tune could change. With its Galaxy Watch 4 series, Samsung quietly ditched support for iOS.
If you dive into the specs for Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 on the company’s website, you’ll see that the compatibility list has changed since the release last year. The glaring omission? Galaxy Watch 4 does not fully support iOS, a detail Samsung has confirmed ArsTechnica while saying that the change has no impact on older Galaxy smartwatches. In other words, Samsung will not remove this capability from its Tizen products.
Support for Android 5.0 smartphones is also removed, with the new minimum threshold being Android 6.0. However, Google Mobile Services – Play Services and Play Store – must be on your device for the device to work, thanks to its new Wear OS kernel.

Really, that shouldn’t be a big deal. The Apple Watch is, after all, most other Wear OS and similar smartwatches that aim to compete. This device also works great with an iPhone. However, it’s certainly a shame that iPhone users are given one less option for smartwatch support.
