Bears vs Dolphins: Day 1 Joint Practice Recap

[ad_1]

The Chicago Bears open their preseason roster on Saturday at noon (CT) against the Miami Dolphins, so the Dolphins took off earlier this week to participate in joint practice against the Bears at Halas Hall. There was a weather delay during testing today, but both teams waited and did all their work.

The theme of today’s training was clearly defense, as that side of the ball prevailed for most of the day. Reports point to the Bears’ defensive line dominance and pass rush, but the Miami defensive line was doing a quick job on the Chicago patchwork offensive line. For those scoring at home, here’s how the Bears lined up from left to right; Elijah Wilkinson (LT), Cody Whitehair (LG), Sam Mustipher (C), Alex Bars (RG) and Lachavious Simmons (RT). Wilkinson was recently off the reserve / COVID-19 list and Simmons has just completed a concussion protocol. Neither tackle is expected to start Week 1, but with Teven Jenkins (back) and Germain Ifedi (hip) still out on the sidelines, the Bears are forced to play with what they have.

Chicago’s other injured players have remained the same, the only addition being Allen Robinson who sat down with a hamstring, but that should be just a precautionary measure.

Former Bears coach Brad Childress was in training today, as were former NFL quarterbacks Alex Smith and Dan Marino.

Let’s check on Twitter to see what was going on today.

It’ll be nice to get the beat reporters’ perspective from out of town, so we’re going to mix a few of their takes with the usual Chicago Tweets.
