Just over three years after clashing for a fight that never happened, Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz circle another reservation.

On Twitter, the UFC stars appeared to be willing to fight. It remains to be seen when and where that might happen, but after Diaz punched Conor McGregor showing him how it goes against Poirier, his potential opponent spoke up on Wednesday.

Diaz was referring to Poirier’s withdrawal from Game 1, scheduled for UFC 230, due to a hip injury requiring surgery. Diaz then withdrew from the event and the fighters went their separate ways, although they continued to shoot each other in line.

Diaz even offered a middleweight meet. Poirier said he can beat the Stockton, Calif. Native anywhere.

After beating Conor McGregor in their rematch at UFC 257, Poirier targeted Diaz as his next possible opponent. Instead, he completed a trilogy with McGregor that ended in a second victory after McGregor was ruled out by the doctor’s stoppage with a broken leg.

UFC President Dana White named Poirier the next likely candidate for a title shot against lightweight champion Charles Oliveira, and Poirier expected him to fight for the title when he returns to the league. ‘octagon. That said, a fight against Diaz, a proven pay-per-view draw, could be another tantalizing diversion.

Poirier explained that a third fight with box office star McGregor was the easy choice rather than a title fight left vacant by retiring Khabib Nurmagomedov. He transmitted a fight against Oliveira and watched the Brazilian capture the belt via TKO in the second round.

Could Poirier make another detour? Regardless, the UFC lightweight star appears to have options.
