Operations are officially underway at Amazon’s new air hub in Kentucky.
The 800,000 square foot facility will form the heart of Amazon’s air freight network in the United States, helping to ensure packages are delivered quickly across the country.
The new hub is a huge undertaking for the e-commerce giant. Announced in February 2017, the $ 1.5 billion hub is a sign of the potential scale of Amazon’s logistics ambitions. According to Reuters, it is similar in size to the hubs of other freight airlines and signifies Amazon’s willingness to move its delivery operations more in-house rather than relying solely on third-party carriers.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos himself broke new ground on the facility in 2019, moving a load of dirt with a front loader.
“This hub is going to allow us to send packages to customers faster, and that’s a big deal,” Bezos said at the time, according to WCPO-TV of Cincinnati. “We’re going to take Prime from two days to one day, and this hub is a big part of that.”
