Explosive holds in Kings Canyon will temporarily open to prevent groundbreaking feat in Apex

Players won’t need grenades to open Kings Canyon’s explosive holds at this time. Containers will appear temporarily unlocked to avoid exploiting a trigger that gets stuck Apex Legends pushes until developers find a definitive fix, a developer confirmed last night.

Tech game designer Aaron L. wrote in a comment on Reddit that the explosive holds will appear open “until we have a suitable solution” to the groundbreaking problem. The solution is a “patch candidate,” he said, which means a patch could be available soon.

Players recently discovered a groundbreaking feat involving explosive holds. Entering two grenades on the same container would cause an “internal server error” which would terminate the entire session. The issue is of particular concern due to its extreme impact and ease of replication.

However, this isn’t the first time Respawn has encountered an issue with containers. In March, the developers pushed a fix to resolve a crash “related to explosive holds”. While Respawn hasn’t explained in detail what triggered the error, a video from content creator Icee Ops shows that opening the hold and going through a Wraith portal at the same time could be one of the causes.

Explosive holds made their way to Mountain peak as part of the Season Eight map update and is another source of high quality gear, including attachments and weapons. Opening them takes a grenade. But for now, players can just walk into one and take what’s inside, at least until Respawn locks them in again.
