Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently visited the Gigafactory Berlin. Musk met a few people in Brandenburg, including Economy Minister Jörg Steinbach.
Steinbach has revealed the contents of his meeting with Elon Musk following their evening reunion.
“Very relaxed evening meeting with Elon Musk, D. Woidke, colleagues on both sides and myself,” the minister tweeted. “In an atmosphere of mutual trust, we discussed the remaining tasks. Thank you to you and your big family for this visit, Elon!
Based on Steinbach’s tweet, Musk discussed the remaining steps to get Giga Berlin up and running. Tesla’s plant in Germany appears to be ready to go, according to videos taken from the stamping section of Giga Berlin. Model Y bodies were also spotted at the factory site recently, hinting that Giga Berlin’s machines are calibrated for Model Y production.
Elon Musk’s visit and his meeting with Steinbach came a few days before Armin Laschet’s planned visit to Giga Berlin, which may not be a coincidence. Laschet is a favorite to succeed German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
As a serious candidate for chancellor, Laschet’s visit to Giga Berlin is important as it could affect Tesla’s relations with Germany in the future. While Laschet appears to strongly support action on climate change, he also stressed the importance of finding a balance between climate policies and maintaining a strong economy.
