Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott told reporters on Wednesday he would undergo an additional MRI for a right shoulder injury he sustained during training at training camp on July 28. .
Like Michael gehlken of the Dallas Morning News noted, Prescott has withdrawn from this practice and is glad he did.
“I never felt anything in my arm so this was the first alarm that went off,” Prescott said.
The MRI is expected to take place after the team returns to Dallas from its training camp headquarters in Oxnard, Calif.
Prescott also said he hopes to take part in team drills on Monday and play in the Cowboys’ third exhibition game, which is Saturday, Aug. 21, at home against the Houston Texans. Previously, Dallas is scheduled to play against the Arizona Cardinals on Friday.
Any setback to Prescott will raise concerns given he is the franchise quarterback who suffered a season-ending ankle injury that required surgery last year.
Dallas exercised to warn with the 28-year-old during off-season training and surely needs him under center to reach his full potential.
Prescott entered the 2021 offseason as a two-time pro Bowler with four seasons of over 3,300 passing yards on his resume.
Right now, it looks like this injury won’t hamper Prescott’s ability to prepare for the team’s regular-season opener on September 9 at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
If Prescott is sidelined after that setback, however, Garrett Gilbert is listed as the next man on the quarterback’s unofficial depth chart. Ben DiNucci and Cooper Rush are seated behind him in that order.
