What Nick Saban said about LBs, punt returns and Trey Sanders after 5th practice

Alabama have just completed their fifth pre-season football training session and Nick Saban is expected to step onto the podium to discuss Crimson Tide’s first training sessions in August.

Here’s a quick look at what Saban said on Wednesday afternoon:

– Saban said the heat is tough on the players, but that’s nothing new. It is an opportunity to overcome adversity and help with the state of mind.

– The focus is now on “how to do it” instead of what to do. They can take a narrow view of their specific work and forget how it all works together as a collective.

– The first day in the full pads will be Thursday before the first full scrum on Saturday in the stadium.

–On Jahleel Billingsley, Saban noted he was back in training after following certain COVID protocols.

– Receiver Xavier Williams is absent for “medical problems” and will be absent for the season. More to come on this.

–Saban said several players go head to head for the center linebacker role played by Henry To’o To’o. He mentioned Christian Harris and Jaylen Moody as others at this location.

– Punt returner is a work in progress with JoJo Earle, Ja’Corey Brooks, Camar Wheaton, Jameson and Slade Bolden in the mix.

– Jalyn Armor-Davis competes for a few defensive back positions. Durability has been an issue in the past, but he sees it as an improvement. He plays with more force.

– RB Trey Sanders has not been restricted in any training exercise after injuries he sustained last fall in a car crash.

– Saban said he couldn’t see himself joining social media. If that could help Alabama win games then maybe, but he doesn’t see that as a result.
