Redshirt second year Brian Maurer was not in attendance for Tennessee football practice Wednesday morning during the open portions of practice seen by reporters.

Maurer entered camp in a four-way battle for quarterback with senior redshirt Hendon hooker, a transfer from Virginia Tech, junior redshirt Joe milton, a transfer from Michigan and second year Harrison bailey.

In 12 games over the past two seasons, Maurer has totaled 647 yards of scrimmage, throwing 550 and rushing for 97. He completed 37 of 81 attempted passes and threw two touchdown passes. He only played four games last season, accounting for just 50 total attacking yards.

He started a week later against Mississippi State, completing 4 of 7 passes for 61 yards and rushing three times for 41 yards, but left the game after sustaining a concussion on a run in the first half.

Maurer was injured in the first half in Alabama, completing 5 of 7 passes for 62 yards and an interception on his first road start. He started in Kentucky in November, completing 7 of 16 passes for 98 yards, before being replaced by Jarrett Guarantano to start the second half.
