A large wildfire has broken out in the Upper National Forest of northern Minnesota.
According to the US Forest Service, the wildfire was spotted around 3 p.m. Sunday in the Laurentian Ranger District near Greenwood Lake, or about 3 p.m. southwest of Isabella, Minnesota.
“The current size is unknown and estimated at a few hundred acres and is moving rapidly,” the US Forest Service said at around 6:15 p.m. on Sunday, noting that a plane was following the blaze to determine the full extent of its size.
Aerial and ground firefighting is underway with the assistance of county and state resources.
“Smoke will likely be visible in the area,” the forest service said.
The blaze is burning in an area where fire conditions were “near perfect” on Sunday, according to NWS Duluth.
This is a developing story.
