The Celtics face the Kings for the Summer League Championship – and it looks like they’ll have some reinforcements. Boston goaltender Payton Pritchard said on Twitter late Sunday night that he would be back in Las Vegas to play Tuesday’s game at 9 p.m.
“Back to Vegas Tuesday for the Summer League chip!” Pritchard wrote on Twitter.
Pritchard played as one of the best goalies in the Summer League when he was in Las Vegas. C coach Joe Mazzulla said Pritchard temporarily left the team for an excused absence, which turned out to be a stint in Portland’s Pro-Am basketball league. Pritchard scored 92 points in Game 1, then continued with a performance of 57 points.
He made waves on social media for his 92-point game – a screaming statistic at any level – now he has to return to Las Vegas. Pritchard has averaged 20.3 points and 8.7 assists per game on 57.7% 3-point shots in his three Summer League games.
The Celtics enter the league championship at 4-0 and the best team in the Summer League to date. They brought a list full of ghosts. It was a recipe for success, heading into the title game as they took out three different opponents.
Young C’s have played in the Summer League, though it’s always important to keep context during the NBA’s annual exhibition games in midsummer. But still, the Celtics are playing for a championship. And Pritchard looks like he’s coming back just in time.
