How to set a status in Gmail and Google Chat

Status messages are one of the internet’s first quirks that didn’t quite keep up with the times, even if they totally should. They’re fun, but they’re also informative, allowing you to let your contact list know what you do and why you I really can’t reply to all messages at the moment, Dave. Fortunately, Google is bringing back the status message, one app at a time.

Which Google apps allow you to set status?

From this article, you can set a status for your account in Google Chat and Gmail. Google first rolled out the statuses for these services earlier this summer and updated the Android versions of Google Chat and Gmail to support this feature on August 12.

When you access Gmail from the web, there are actually two ways to set your status. The most recent method is to turn on Google Chat. To activate the chat, click on the settings gear, then choose See all settings. From there, click Chat and meet, click it Google chat tab, and then click Okay on the pop-up window. Finally, click Save changes.

Gmail will then refresh automatically and you will see a new one. active status tab. Click on it, then click Add status. Here you can choose to write your own status and add an emoji with the smiley icon, or choose one of the four preset statuses from the list.

If Hangouts is on, check your name and icon under Hangouts on the left side of the screen. Click on it, then click Share your status. This option will allow you to enter your status and choose an accompanying emoji by tapping the smiley icon on the left.

How youup to date your Gmailstatus (Android)

To set a status in Gmail for Android, you must first enable Chat. To do this, tap the hamburger menu icon at the top left, tap Settings, then tap the relevant Gmail account. Scroll down, tap the box next to To discuss, then tap Okay in the pop-up window to activate the feature.

Gmail should restart and, when it does, tap the hamburger menu icon again to find the new one. Add status option. As you would expect, you can enter a status and add an emoji from the smiley icon, but you can also choose one of the four preset statuses available below.

To create a status on Google Chat on your desktop browser, just click on the status button (by default it appears as active), then click on “Add status”, complete with the same manual status option, as well as the four predefined statuses.

Google Chat’s status function works exactly the same as Gmail’s, without having to activate the chat function first. To get started, just tap the hamburger menu icon at the top left and then tap Add status. Again, enter your status and add an emoji from the smiley icon, or tap one of the four preset statuses from the list.
